How to select a Cincinnati towing company

9/10/2018

While towing may be generally considered a commodity consumer service, there are a number of criteria you should consider the next time you call a towing company in Cincinnati, OH.  Below are some tips and suggestions to help you select the right towing operator as well as avoid the risks of using an
towing service.
  1. Always ask if the towing service is licensed and insured in the state of Ohio.  Anyone call run around the city with a tow truck offering their services.  However only insured and licensed tow trucks are legally (and safely) able to operate in the state of Ohio and city of Cincinnati.   You may initially save a few dollars using an unlicensed and uninsured towing service, but it could cost you dearly if something foes wrong, such as your car is damaged.
  2. Ask about all fees and rates up front, prior to committing to the towing service.  Some unscrupulous towing services will not disclose fees and aspects of their rates until they have you "hooked" up.  That is no time to discover travel surcharges or other under-the-table fees.  Always ask what the complete service cost will be when you initially call the towing truck service.
  3. While you may not have time to check reviews when you need immediate road-side assistance, take just 15 minutes some time prior to an emergency to pre-select towing services you will want to call when you have the need.  Further, have at least 3 in mind prior to having the requirement, as often, during winter storms, towing services may be running hours behind - having a number of pre-selected "towing near me" services will potentially save you time and frustration.
  4. Be aware of your automobile's needs when requesting vehicle towing services.  Some vehicles will require a flatbed due to their drivetrains, so don't leave that up to the operator to decide, only to discuss later damage to your vehicle has been done
  5. Try to always pay with credit card vs cash.  Operators that run a cash-only business are to be avoided as it is a sign they may not be operating legally.  Further, your credit card company may afford you some protections should something happen during the tow.
