How Avoid Vehicle Damage During a Tow

You visit a new town or go out to eat in an unfamiliar part of town, and right in the middle of all your fun— you realize that you haven't pre-checked your engine and before you even know it, your car is getting towed.

Recognizing what you have to do in advance can help you have your vehicle back easier, faster and with little to no stress. It's always annoying to get your vehicle towed. The fact that your car has collapsed somewhere makes it uncomfortable while patiently waiting for a tow to arrive is incredibly frustrating. During the tow, your vehicle could end up even more damaged.  Most people do not know that the towing of a broken vehicle could result in further damage beyond what caused the breakdown. You should, therefore, take a moment to make some modifications to your car to make sure that it is safe to tow, if not you may see more damage.

Here are a few tips on how to prevent even more damage when your car gets towed:

• Take off the emergency brake.  When you call for a tow truck, so you know that your vehicle does not go anywhere by itself, putting the brake on makes sense. This could, however, damage the car if it was towed using the classic two wheels of the road method..  When you take off the brake, the car is safe to tow with two wheels on the road, so that no damage occurs to your brakes. This can also be done in the park, but you must ensure that the non- driving wheels are on the ground during automatic transmission.
• Manual vehicles are excellent for towing with the brake off in the park on any wheels. If towed via a flatbed, the brakes are less of a problem because no wheels are on the road, but you want to make sure that the vehicle is hoisted.
• Don't forget to roll up windows.  It's a frequently neglected fact that while getting towed you wind up every one of the windows in the vehicle. This keeps any residue and particles being kicked up from the back of the tow truck and into the car, which could harm upholstery and require cleaning. It will also prevent anything from inside the vehicle to be thrown out amongst all the moving.
• Take Before Photographs.  Taking photographs is a good idea before getting towed. With the majority of us always carrying a cell phone in our pockets, it's anything but difficult to get some snappy snaps of the state of your vehicle before it is towed.

This gives you some level of assurance should anything harm your vehicle. While it won't keep it from occurring, it guarantees you have proof that your car was damaged when it was being towed.
